Sir,
I am directed by är. Secretary Griffiths
to refer to correspondence resting with the letter from this Department of 31st October 1949 concerning claims arising from an explosion in Hong Kong in January 1946.
Mr. Griffiths assumes that the Army Council has been informed of the passage referring to this matter which was included in the settlement reached at the recent financial conference between representatives of
His Vajesty's Government and of the Government of Hong Kong which reads :-
“Explosion at Argyle Street.
It is understood that His Majesty's Government will investigate as sympathetically as possible whether payment can be made by the War Office to the claimants without infringement of principle."
Kr. Griffiths would be glad to learn whether
